Whether you are writing short stories, writing a novel, memoir or just beginning to write fiction, my dual pronged method of teaching will support you on your writing journey. I am a novelist with a passion for teaching others how unleash their stories and put them down on the often unfriendly page. I've been writing fiction all my life and have been coaching others in private sessions and writing workshops for the past thirty years.

I've had a gratifying and successful career. I have published seven works of fiction, including my novel, Petersburg, which sold to Putnams for $250,000. Petersburg went on to become a best seller in England and was translated into many languages. And I've also had rejections, lots of them! So, I know what it's like to be a writer, everything from writing to getting a manuscript in final form, to finding an agent, working with editors, PR people and the radio.

My two pronged method of coaching is simple: I teach you all the techniques necessary for writing fiction: short stories and writing the novel as well as memoir, and I support you in unleashing your creative passion. I offer this through private coaching and an array of writing workshops and TeleSeminars on writing fiction and the creative process.

Creative passion is the magic ingredient and cannot be taught. You are born with it. For most of us, however, that deep passion which leads us to our true voices has been buried by life experiences. Reclaiming your creative passion is the most powerful part of the work we do together. For once you have claimed it fully, technique become easy.

"Emily, you have been such an incredible source of inspiration to me over the years. I doubt very highly that I would have been able to sustain this growth if it weren't for your powerful, yet always thoughtful critiques."
